5better than the Bose stock
By zdm
When I updated my stereo from the stock Bose premium head in my z71 Tahoe to a Kenwood ddx-419 the sound was instantly better. But then I decided to replace the speakers just to see because the price was good.
First. just did a quick install and immediately could run the volume up past 25 (where the stock Bose premiums started distorting) to about 35. Keep in mind I run my treble in the negatives and my bass at around +4 on the low end bass and work it to around +1 until the mid-range spectrum, then it's back down to the -'s again. Then I deadened the inner door with Dynamat Extreme, added a 12" square piece of ¼" acoustical foam directly behind the speaker, added a new baffle cone and then Dynamatted the exterior door surface with 1 layer of Extreme and then added another layer of ½ acoustical foam trimmed back 3" all the way around so my door panel would fit. Some will scream overkill but all I know is those speakers will take everything that ddx-419 will throw at them and not falter until the last 5% of the units Max volume (where is its distortion takes over) and it sounds crisp and clean on all 4 doors with the stock Bose amp. Guess I'm gonna have to bypass the stock amp entirely and get a good 4 channel amp to push these speakers to their limits....and as for road noise?...lol, I'm pulling the carpet next and going to double layer it with DynaExtreme and then a layer of ⅜, 6lb carpet pad and put the carpet back in.....ah, the joy of being an ex carpet installer. By that point all I should be hearing is the noise around the window seals.

All in all, these speakers do a perfect job combined with the ddx-419 head unit...and I haven't even decided on a sub system yet....but it will proly be a custom formed boxed 10 setup hidden behind the rear panels in the cargo area, no more than 300rms, and all Kenwood, of course!
